The 2014 Lincolnshire Sports Awards took place on Thursday 6th November, and at Your Print Partner we were incredibly proud to be an Awards sponsor.
The night was a celebration of the achievements of Lincolnshire's sporting stars, from the professional athletes who represent the region to the coaches and volunteers who dedicate their time to encouraging sports participation at every level.
Over 350 guests attended the event to see 17 different awards presented to some very inspirational people.
Your Print Partner sponsored the Disabled Sportsperson of the Year Award, which was won by Para Equestrian Rider Roberta Sheffield.
After many years of coming to terms with the progressively debilitating disease of Rheumatoid Arthritis,
Roberta recently became the British Dressage Para National Champion at Grade 3 on her horse Double Agent, and has been selected as a member of the four strong Canadian Team for the World Equestrian Games.
After presenting the award to Roberta, YPP Managing Director Stuart Maclaren said "We felt this category was almost too close to call - three wonderful sportspeople who have each enjoyed a really successful year.
"What Roberta has achieved is incredible. She is clearly determined to follow her dream and participate in the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016, and we wish her the very best of luck."
Also nominated was Paratriathlete and Wheelchair Racing star Mark Conway and Kieran Tscherniawsky, who is currently second in the world for his category in discus.
Whilst on stage, Stuart was asked by awards host Ed Chamberlin about the company's contribution as a sponsor of Lincolnshire Sport's Elite Athlete Programme.
"We were delighted to be able to contribute towards the funding for LEAP. Without this programme, many of the region's brightest young athletes would struggle to find the finance and support they need to continue doing the sport they love."
One of the beneficiaries of the LEAP programme has been Jade Etherington - winner of three silvers in the women’s downhill skiing, combined and slalom, and a bronze medal in the Super-G at the 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympic Games, along with her guide Caroline Powell.
Jade, who recently came to visit the team here at Your Print Partner, won the Sportswoman of the Year Award and overall Sports Personality of the Year Award. Earlier this week Jade announced that she was retiring from her skis to concentrate on her teaching career, and we would like to send her our best wishes for the future.
